The Back to the Future DeLorean
Remember the 80s flick, Back to the Future? The infamous car that was built by Dr. Brown and used to transport Marty McFly “back in time” was none other than the DeLorean. Today, you can still get a glimpse of the Back to the Future DeLorean. If you are interested in tracking down Back to the Future movie memorabilia, or you are just interested in DeLorean cars you are in luck.
The Back to the Future DeLorean was a real DeLorean car outfitted to make it look quite scientific and ready for time travel. Why did Dr. Brown choose to use the DeLorean for his time travel? He wanted to travel in style and because the body is made from stainless steel, he felt it was better for travel through time. Although only between 8,000 and 9,000 of these cars were ever produced in the 80s, the Back to the Future set got six for filming.
While shooting the first movie, these six were used and made to look like they were meant for time travel, but were otherwise left intact. However, during the making of the second and third sequels to the movie, the DeLorean cars were used, but producers replaced the engines that were in the cars. These DeLorean cars had Porsche engines to give them more power for the film shoots.
Now you can see one of the Back to the Future DeLorean cars by visiting Universal Studios in California. While the flux capacitor is missing and some of the other circuits are not intact, you can take pictures of this famous movie car. In fact, if you are interested in the Back to the Future DeLorean and movie memorabilia, you can also find the clock tower that was used in the downtown scenes during the first movie at Universal Studios.
